Art Of Compelling And Engaging Captions

Updated: Jul 31, 2019

In social media, stories come in the form of captions, videos, or photos. More often than not, it is a video or a photo accompanied by a caption.

The caption could be written in a few lines or it could be one sentence or even one word (or emoji). Regardless of the caption length, the objective of brand stories should be to evoke emotions among audience to create brand-audience connection.

Simpler, shorter copywriting

Simpler, shorter captions tend to generate the most engagement.

If you tend to write longer captions, try to practice self-constraint. Edit so that you get your point across in the fewest words possible. In other words, cut out the fluff and get straight to the point!

Narrative Urgency

Every sentence must serve a purpose! Your first sentence must make the reader want to read the second.

The second sentence must propel the reader to the third, fourth, and so on until the very end. If a sentence doesn’t move the narrative forward—then it must be cut, no matter how creative it seems.

Facts and figures

Use numbers: our brains can understand it more easily.

Share facts, figures, data, and statistics to spark curiosity. Using facts and data help take your ideas from abstract to concrete.

At Beta Social, we love using numbers in our creatives to increase engagement and traffic.

Expand your vocabulary to make your writing more precise

A great vocabulary is just one essential tool in a writer’s toolbox, along with punctuation, grammar, and many others. Vocabulary can make your writing more powerful and more effective and help you say exactly what you mean.

Building your vocabulary is one of the easiest ways to improve the power of your writing and make any writing task that much easier.

Don’t waste the reader’s time

Your customers’ time and attention are two of their most precious resources. Don’t take up 3 minutes of your reader’s time when it could have been done in under 30 seconds. If you want to earn your reader’s trust, don’t waste their time.
